Ross Haven Shoreline Weed Cutting<\/strong><\/p>\n

Resident Information Notice<\/strong><\/p>\n

To all Shoreline Property Owners and Dock Owners of Parkway Community Docks<\/u><\/p>\n

The Summer Village of Ross Haven has received a village wide Approval issued under the Alberta Water Act to permit aquatic vegetation control activities for the purpose of shoreline management. The Approval authorizes activities associated with the maintenance, removal, or disturbance of aquatic vegetation and other materials in or on a water body, subject to the terms and conditions outlined within the Approval.<\/p>\n

This approval allows for a 4m wide x 1m deep swath perpendicular to the resident shoreline from the lift\/pier, out to open water. Mechanical or manual removal of aquatic vegetation must take place immediately as it is cut.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Council has spoken with Aquatic Weed Harvesters Inc. located at Lake Isle. They have a weed cutting machine that can collect weeds as they are cut. The cost per hour of the weed cutter is $310.00 plus GST. Their weed cutter would have to travel back and forth to the Yellowstone boat launch to unload the weeds. The best guesstimate would be a time of 1.5 hours per dock (approx. $500). That time could be more depending on the density of the weeds and length of the swath being cut. Parkway Community docks could take longer to cut if more swaths are required by the individual dock owners. This activity is voluntary. Only docks wishing to participate and pay their share will have their weeds cut.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At this point, we are gaging if there is enough interest as well as willingness to pay to see if this weed cutting company will come to us. (They will not come if there are only a few requests.) Ross Haven does not have a budget for this work. The costs would have to be paid by the dock owners.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This work would likely occur in the first half of August if this project goes forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Individual lake front owners<\/strong> who are interested, please send an email to <\/strong>cao@rosshaven.ca<\/a>. Please provide your name and lot number if you are a lake front owner.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Interested <\/strong>Parkway Community Docks<\/strong> need to select one person as a representative to send an email to <\/strong>cao@rosshaven.ca<\/a>. Please provide your name and lot number along with the parkway number.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If this is to move forward<\/u><\/strong>, we will need a quick response (by July 25th<\/sup>) from interested parties so that the weed cutting company can be booked. Individual contracts will be completed between Ross Haven and the dock owner\/Parkway Community Dock representative before the weed cutting commences. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
